 OTTAWA  – Today in the House of Commons, local MP Claude Gravelle (Nickel Belt) stood up to demand answers to why the Conservative government has mishandled the contracts of hundreds of statistical survey staff in Sturgeon Falls.

 “This government has been nasty with science and statistical evidence. Now they are mistreating the people collecting the evidence,” said Gravelle. “I have 200 statistical survey operations staff in Sturgeon Falls, part of 1,500 across Canada, who have been without a contract for over a year.”

Gravelle asks constituents to name waterways that should be protected

OTTAWA – Nickel Belt MP Claude Gravelle wants riding residents to help him name the rivers and lakes to be protected in a private member’s bill he will introduce to reverse some of the sweeping changes the Conservative government has made to waterways protections.

 GUELPH – Touring Guelph today, NDP members of a parliamentary committee praised the city’s plan to move forward with a sustainable energy plan—calling it a model for cities across Canada.

 “Guelph’s Community Energy Initiative shows it’s possible to provide for the energy needs of a community and ensure its sustainability,” said NDP Natural Resources critic Peter Julian (Burnaby—New Westminster).

OTTAWA – Nickel Belt MP Claude Gravelle is supporting a move by delegates at the NDP national policy convention to approve a national mining strategy resolution on sustainable development and job protection, proposed by the Nickel Belt Federal NDP Riding Association.

“Former leader Jack Layton had asked me to help draft a mining strategy and now our leader Tom Mulcair wants us to continue this work,” said Gravelle. “During Tom’s visit to Sudbury this month, the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce had asked us ‘why doesn’t Canada have a mining strategy?’.”
