Claude's Posts

On February 11, I asked the following question in Question Period. The answer from the health minister speaks to good investment in reseaerch but fails to recognize the need for a national dementia strategy. We will continue to press for this

Mr. Claude Gravelle (Nickel Belt, NDP): Mr. Speaker, if the Conservative government continues to drag its heels, Alzheimer's will become a major public heath problem in the not too distant future.

OTTAWA – Almost 8,000 residents of Nickel Belt joined a cutting edge telephone town hall hosted by MP Claude Gravelle from here Monday, commenting on the budget, seniors, EI, FedNor, youth engagement, seasonal workers  on the French River and many other issues.

Mr. Speaker,

Reasonable voices across the country are standing up to this government’s support of deadly asbestos.

Here’s just one, and I quote:
“I have made the decision that the production and export of asbestos is contrary to the best interest of Canadians.”

Mr. Speaker, do you know who said that?

Dona Cadman, the former Conservative member for Surrey North.

Mr. Claude Gravelle (Nickel Belt, NDP):
Mr. Speaker, earlier, the Bloc Québécois member said that people who used to work with asbestos do not all die of cancer caused by it. He is right in that respect, just as smokers do not all die from lung cancer. Earlier, I read a list of Quebec doctors who agree with us that asbestos should be banned.

Mr. Speaker, for over 30 years, Jean-Marc Aubin has been an ardent defender of education rights for francophones and has dedicated himself to developing French-language services.
